It's currently unclear how much Amazon's paying for Eero.
Mesh Wi-Fi networks are essential if you want good wireless coverage in a larger home/apartment, and while the market for these routers is huge, Eero has managed to stick out as one of the best options out there. As of February 11, 2019, it's confirmed that Amazon is buying the company.
In a press release issued by Amazon, Senior Vice President of Amazon Devices and Services, Dave Limp, said:
We are incredibly impressed with the eero team and how quickly they invented a WiFi solution that makes connected devices just work. We have a shared vision that the smart home experience can get even easier, and we're committed to continue innovating on behalf of customers.
As for how Eero's reacting to the news, here's what its CEO and Co-Founder, Nick Weaver, said:
From the beginning, eero's mission has been to make the technology in homes just work. We started with WiFi because it's the foundation of the modern home. Every customer deserves reliable and secure WiFi in every room. By joining the Amazon family, we're excited to learn from and work closely with a team that is defining the future of the home, accelerate our mission, and bring eero systems to more customers around the globe.
Around this time last year, Amazon made a similar deal with its acquisition of smart doorbell-maker Ring. Add that together with this new purchase and the company's own efforts with its Echo and Fire TV devices, and it's obvious that Amazon's serious about tackling smart hardware in every way that it can.
It's undisclosed how much Amazon is paying for Eero, but for what it's worth, the company paid $1 billion for Ring last year.
