It could be the world's first gaming phone to be powered by a Snapdragon 865+ chipset.
What you need to know
- The ASUS ROG Phone 3 will be launched at an online "Game Charger" event on July 22.
- It is expected to come with a Snapdragon 865+ chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM.
- The gaming phone will also feature a triple-camera setup at the rear with a 64MP main sensor.
The ROG Phone 2 was arguably the most impressive gaming phone released last year, offering stellar performance and class-leading battery life. ASUS today confirmed that it will be taking the wraps off the ROG Phone 3 at a "game changer" event at 11 AM ET on July 22.
While the ROG Phone 3 will not have a completely different designed compared to its predecessor, it will offer several key hardware upgrades. The flagship gaming phone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's unannounced Snapdragon 865+ chipset, coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. On the back of the phone will be a triple-camera setup featuring a 64MP main sensor.
According to the phone's TENAA listing, it will have a similar 6.59-inch FHD+ display as its predecessor and a 6,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging. However, rumors suggest the ROG Phone 3 will boast a higher 144Hz refresh rate. ZTE's Nubia and Vivo's iQOO sub-brands already offer gaming phones with 144Hz refresh rate screens, so it is certainly plausible that the ROG Phone 3 will have one too. In terms of software, the gaming phone will run Android 10 with ASUS' ROG UI on top.
Just like its predecessor, the ROG Phone 3 is likely to be sold in all major markets across the globe, including the U.S. and Europe.
