The Last of Us Part II is set in a harsh world fraught with danger but with the story as the main focus, you might just want to tone down the difficulty and enjoy the ride. The game features a wide variety of difficulty settings but it's all meant to enhance your experience: there's no trophies related to game difficulty.
Meanwhile, you can mix and match different settings. As such, if there's aspects that you want to be a challenge but prefer others stay the way they are, you can! Here's how you can adjust difficulty settings in The Last of Us Part II.
How to adjust difficulty settings in The Last of Us Part 2
When you first begin a new game in The Last of Us Part II, you'll select one of a few difficulty options: Very Light, Light, Moderate, Hard, Survivor or Custom. That final option is the interesting one, as it allows you to individually adjust different parts of the overall experience.
For example, if you want Ellie to take more damage in combat and for the AI to spot you during stealth quicker, but you still want resources to be abundant, you can set these two separately.
If you want to change difficulty at any point after starting, you can. Just go into the Options menu while the game is paused. Here's everything you can adjust:
- Player — Alters how much damage you take from enemy attacks and the number of checkpoints you get.
- Enemies — Determines enemy intelligence and ferocity, as well as other situational factors.
- Allies — Essentially determines how useful your AI companions are.
- Stealth — Changes how long it takes (and at what distance) enemies will notice you.
- Resources — Affects how much ammo and how many resources you'll find when scavenging.
Remember, it doesn't matter what difficulty you're playing on, there are no specific trophies earned by playing on a particular difficulty. Just figure out what works best for you!
