What you need to know

  • The OnePlus 7 Pro was announced at an event in New York.
  • It has a big display with virtually no bezels.
  • There are three rear cameras.

At its May 14 launch event in New York City, OnePlus formally took the wraps off of its first flagship for 2019 — the OnePlus 7 Pro.

The OnePlus 7 Pro has a large 6.67-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a sharp resolution of 3120 x 1440. This is the first OnePlus phone to have a resolution higher than 1080p Full HD, meaning it'll be the crispiest OnePlus screen yet.

As exciting as the new resolution is, what has us even more excited is the 90Hz refresh rate. A big push for the OnePlus 7 Pro is "fast and smooth", and with the faster refresh rate, everything on the OnePlus 7 Pro's display moves faster and more fluid compared to most other smartphones. It's not quite as fast as 120Hz that you'll find on something like the Razer Phone 2, but compared to the Galaxy S10 or Pixel 3, it should be a big difference.

With the display being as bezel-free as it is, OnePlus had to move the 16MP front-facing camera inside of the phone. When you want to use it, it pops up out of the top frame as we've seen on some other Chinese phones.

Speaking of cameras, the 7 Pro is the first OnePlus phone to have three rear cameras. The primary sensor is a 48MP lens with f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilization. There's also a 3x telephoto lens and an ultra-wide angle one with 117-degree field of view.

Internally, the OnePlus 7 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and be paired with up to 12GB of RAM. It's also the first mainstream phone to use UFS 3.0 storage which is 79% faster than UFS 2.1. In real world use, this translates to app downloads of 5x faster compared to other devices.

To keep the OnePlus 7 Pro chugging along all day, it's equipped with a 4,000 mAh battery. When you need to charge the phone up, OnePlus's new Warp Charge system is 38% faster than its previous charging system and provides around 50% of battery in just 20 minutes.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is available in Nebula Blue and Mirror Gray from day one, and coming in June is Almond.

In regards to price, the OnePlus 7 Pro starts out at $669 for the model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. If you step up to the $699 model, you'll get 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

You can buy it starting Friday, May 17 at 10:00 AM EDT from OnePlus's website and at T-Mobile in the United States.
