What are the latest games worth checking out in the Google Play Store?

Update February 9, 2018: We recommend checking out two puzzle game finalists in Google's Indie Game Contest: Unbalance and Yellow. Looking for a bit more action? Check out Lost Socks: Naughty Brothers!

Unbalance

Unbalance is a finalist in this year's Google Play Indie Game Contest, and it's clear to see why after spending just a bit of play time. This game is really unlike any other puzzle game you've played before — a minimalist physics puzzle game that's all about exploiting geometry and balance.

Your goal is to drop balls on to the shape to cause it to rotate in such a way that the red target ball falls onto the goal marker. the concept is simple, but the levels get extremely challenging as you have a limited number of balls available to clear each level.

There are four different categories to play through that start off easy but then incorporate colored balls that remove different side of the geometric shape. With over 90 levels currently available (and more coming soon) backed by a soothing soundtrack, this is a great game for giving your brain a good workout.

Yellow

In a word, Yellow is mesmerizing. Another finalist in the Google Play Indie Game Contest, Yellow is another puzzle game in which your goal is to make the screen go yellow.

Unlike Unbalance, where each level is a new challenge but the way you solve each level stays the same, Yellow forces you to figure out how this level is to be solved before you can solve it. Each level has it's own unique logic for solving; sometimes this is as easy as swiping across the screen, while other levels will take a bit more brain power to figure out the solution.

There are 50 levels to play through here, and if you enjoy it you'll be happy to know that it's actually a sequel to another puzzle game, Red. Different color, but the same great puzzle fun.

Lost Socks: Naughty Brothers

A couple weeks ago, a fake Cuphead app popped up in the Apple App Store. While that was definitely a hoax, it did get us excited about the idea of a game as beautiful and challenging as Cuphead coming to mobile.

Lost Socks: Naughty Brothers just might be the closest thing we'll get to a Cuphead port for Android. It's a beautifully animated auto-scrolling platformer wherein you play a sock looking for his lost brother. With multiple weapons to unlock and rather challenging gameplay (although not as tough as Cuphead, thankfully), Lost Socks is a surprisingly fleshed out title for a free mobile game.

The gameplay is slightly smooth and the graphics are straight up amazing. It feels like you're controlling the action in a cartoon. It's been two years since this game was initially released for IOS as a paid title, but it's finally available on Android as a free-to-play game that's actually worth checking out.
